The Manoir Brule Corporate Retreat is situated at only 55 miles northeast of Quebec City and is easily accessible by automobile (75 minute drive). It is a part of the 400,000 acre Beaupre Seignory private woodlands owned by the Quebec Seminary. This is one of the largest and oldest privately owned tracts of land in Canada, dating back to the 1650’s.
The Manoir Brule
The Manoir Brule is a magnificent Canadian style lodge with seven luxurious double-occupancy bedrooms, each one with a private bathroom. The lounge and dining room are separated by an impressive double stone fireplace and can accommodate up to 40 people for a reception. A private generator system provides around-the-clock electricity as well as hot and cold running water. The covered lake-front veranda offers a superb view of Lake Brule, a great place to relax after the evening meal.
The Seminary Pavilion
The recently built Seminary Pavilion provides accommodations for 8 people with its 4 double-occupancy bedrooms which share 2 bathrooms. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with hot and cold running water. As with the Manoir, the generator system supplies 24-hour electricity.
The Manoir Brule was built during the era when large international companies owned their own private fishing and hunting clubs in Quebec. Since its construction in the winter of 1959, up until the early 90’s, two different pulp and paper companies as well as a large insurance company were the sole owners of this private club. They would use it to entertain customers from all over the world as well as holding their business meetings.
Over 25 years experience in corporate services
David Craig started working at this prestigious club as a fishing guide in the summer of 1979. At that time, he was in his second year studying biology at Laval University in Quebec City. When the economic recession hit in the early 1990’s, the pulp and paper company was obliged to rationalize costs and in doing so, close the Manoir Brule Retreat. Not taking no for an answer, Craig offered to take over complete operations of the club and open it up to other companies. That was the beginning of Gesti-Faune Inc. Since then, David Craig has been renting this private club, on an exclusive time-sharing basis, to various companies who use it for customer entertainment, board meetings, team building and incentive programs. The pulp and paper company continued taking 5 or 6 groups each summer for several years afterwards.
The Manoir Brule Retreat has 6 lakes that provide excellent speckled trout fishing. This quality fishing is a direct result of Gesti-Faune’s biological expertise.
For example, the construction of the “Invented River” at the Manoir Brule Retreat, resulted in a tenfold increase (300 to 3000) in the annual harvest of speckled trout in Lake Brule! Furthermore, the quality of this biological enhancement project was recognised by the Canadian Government when they awarded Gesti-Faune with Canada’s Recreational Fisheries Award 2000.
Our fishing season extends from June to September and as a result of the high altitude (2700 feet), the water stays cool and the trout bite throughout the summer. This also provides excellent conditions for fly fishing on the surface.
The Manoir Brule is, in reality, a private retreat where the main activity is nature-related (sport fishing, and moose observation instead of golf or tennis). We are especially structured for novices . . . 14 clients who have little or no experience in fishing will thoroughly enjoy their trip. They will be fully equipped with rods, reels, hooks, permits and rainwear. Our guides will then teach them to cast or fly-fish and they will all catch plenty of trout.
Gesti-Faune is also renowned for having developed a gastronomic dining experience in the forest. Their lodges have been promoted worldwide via the television series « Great Canadian Food Show ». It was here at the Manoir Brulé in the early 1990’s that our Corporate Chef, Jean-François Lacroix actually developed this gratifying experience. It was also here, at the Manoir Brulé, where our International Award-Winning cookbook «Gastronomy and the Forest» originated and was developed.
